Anthony PRIDE Organization Works to Improve Community
The Anthony Chamber of Commerce recently released a statement, announcing the efforts of the PRIDE Committee to improve and enhance the City of Anthony. Below is an excerpt from a letter sent out by the Chamber to local businesses, including Penn Place Apartments:
"We are bringing back PRIDE to Anthony. Perhaps you are thinking – I have PRIDE in Anthony – and you should have, but we sometimes need to step back and take the blinders off to see what people are seeing when they visit Anthony. The talk of those visiting, as well as many residents, is that we need to be taking a pro active stance in addressing the looks of our community – we are starting to look a little neglected – not so much in our business district, but in our residential areas.
This is the reason that the city alerted all city residents that the ordinances on non-working vehicles as well as the health ordinances concerning trash/junk that is accumulating in yards and on porches will be enforced beginning this month. The PRIDE committee will be sponsoring a City Wide Clean Up on July 17-18-19 to give residents a place to go to dispose of items that need to be removed from their yards/porches. Details on the clean up were mailed out with utility bills and ads are running in the Anthony Republican. Please help us by encouraging and informing the public about this project that is FREE to them.
This project is just the beginning. We hope to continue with projects to enhance the looks of Anthony and enrich the lives of those living here. Our goal is to entice people to move to Anthony. This creates an economic benefit up and down main street. Our tax structure is based on residents – if we continue losing population, the ripple effect will be that taxes will increase. No one wants this so it is important that we put our best foot forward each day. Often, communities are not given a second chance to make a good impression. The time is right to do this – with the pandemic, many people have learned they can work remotely from home and will be looking for a smaller, safer community to live in. More retirees will be looking to move from the big cities, also. You received a survey in your utility bill. Please take the time to give us your input by returning the survey. If you no longer have the survey, there were only 3 questions on it. Just email us your response:
Give your input on the areas that you see that need improved.
Besides clean up, do you have any suggestions for other community improvement projects or concerns? You can email your answers to email@example.com.
Would you like to be a part of the Anthony Pride committee? If so, please contact the Chamber Office at 620-842-3575, or make plans to attend the next PRIDE meeting on Tues., July 14 at 6:30pm at Banc Central hospitality room.
If you cannot be involved in the committee, please support us verbally with your words and actions. Donations are also appreciated to help fund our projects – Send to PO Box 2 – made out to Anthony Pride. We also have a PRIDE in Anthony Facebook page. Your PRIDE committee is working to keep Anthony active & attractive. We can only accomplish this with community participation – We are all better together."
